  • Perpetual motion machines are REAL!! They’re called SaaS companies 😎

Not only are the best SaaS companies growing, they’re accelerating! We live in a world where the fastest company to reach $100M ARR (read Hopin) got there in just over 1 year 🤯
But why? Why are some companies able to grow at such a break neck pace? Chetan makes a great point - its all about "top of funnel" quality ⭐️

Right now, the pace at which some enterprise software companies are able to grow revenue from $0 to $10M or $10M to $100M is breathtaking. Often, it seems to come down to the size, velocity, and quality of the "top of the funnel"

  • Just look at those curves 😳

Amjad Masad shared Replit's growth journey this week.
The company took just over 2 years to go from 0 to 4M websites / apps.
But just look at how long it took to go from 16 to 20M... just about 3 months!

Does it get more PLG than this 🚀

  • SaaS pricing is evolving 🙉 → 🚶🏻‍♂️

Will we look back in 10 years and see seat based pricing as a remanant of prehistoric SaaS? Well the data indicates that it might be a distinct possibility 🤷🏻‍♂️

Increasingly more SaaS companies are adopting alternative pricing strategies like:
    - Usage based (think Segment, Fivetran)
    - Transaction based (think Shopify, Chargify and Chargebee)

In the tweet below, Kyle notes that the prevalence of usage based pricing is up from 34% to 45% over just the last 1 year! And its not just the young guns... mature companies like Autodesk and defecting to the light side as well ⚡️

1) It's not your imagination. More & more SaaS companies adopted usage-based pricing in the last year (up from 34% to 45%) including startups (@Cypress_io), public cos (@newrelic) and even long-time market leaders (@autodesk). Let's unpack why. A thread.

Netlify: heading the headless revolution
Louis XVI and Content Management Systems have in common that in both cases, separating the head from the body led to revolutions of some kind, albeit vastly different magnitudes. Only 90’s kids will remember a bygone era when almost all content on websites was consumed through a single device in the living room - usually a Mac or a PC. In the olden days…
